Dr Alex Boso

Dr Àlex Boso Gaspar is an environmental sociologist whose research bridges environmental exposures, social inequality, and the built environment, with a particular focus on energy poverty, air pollution, and heatwave risk in urban settings. He is a Senior Scientist at CIEMAT (Spanish Ministry of Science) and an Ad Honorem Professor at Universidad de la Frontera (Chile). He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Barcelona and has developed transdisciplinary approaches that combine ethnographic and qualitative methods with survey research and innovative participatory and sensor-informed methodologies.

Dr Boso has published extensively on environmental justice and socio-environmental vulnerability, with 70+ publications including 63 journal articles (50 in JCR-indexed journals), and contributions across leading outlets such as Energy Policy, Human Ecology or Energy Research & Social Science. He has participated in 25 competitive R&D projects (4 as Principal Investigator) and currently leads VULNERA, funded by Spain’s State Research Agency (AEI), examining social and subjective vulnerability to urban heatwaves. He is an active reviewer for major journals, has delivered invited talks internationally, and has held research stays in Europe, Latin America, and Australia, including at RMIT University (Melbourne).
